I wouldn't call it an "upper" essay, but it does give a prospectus of The Adversary that is working against culture—that is, all of humankind—and the church.

What the Gospel answers is what Progress actively resists:
transcendence not materialism;
peace not revolution;
rootedness not rootlessness;
victory over death, not death of everything;
cultivating creation vs dominating creation;
and so on.
